Involving gender in adaptation to climate change
Gender is important in the mitigation and adaptation to climate change therefore the need to mainstream gender into climate change analysis. The think tank on gender and climate change will focus on land use and land management practices as key factors in climate change dynamics and for which Africa has utmost concern due to the land resource- based economies through agriculture as the mainstay of most of the economies on the continent.

We believe that there is a gender dimension in the causes and impacts of climate change and the responses to them are linked to how land and land resources are used and managed in agriculture in Africa.

Registered Office of the Organization
The registered office of GECCAA shall be situated in the Republic of Uganda or in other country within the African region determined by the General Assembly.

Purpose of GECCAA
To support research, consultancy, and advocacy on gender and DRR in different agricultural systems in Africa

Nature of GECCAA
GECCAA is a non-political, non- profit making and non-governmental organization.

Advocacy and Lobby function
GECCAA shall undertake advocacy and lobby in furtherance of its activities.

Objectives of GECCAA

To identify and inventory research and surveys, work and persons engaged in gender, climate change and Agriculture in Africa.
To foster and conduct research and analysis on gender in climate change in the African Agricultural system.
To promote gender analysis in integrated assessments related to climate, DRR, agriculture and environment.
To develop and deliver training in gender, DRR and climate change analysis in the agriculture sector.
To disseminate information on gender in climate change, DRR and agriculture.
To facilitate networking and dialogue for members by hosting networking platforms and workshop events.
To coordinate funding of research, training and outreach by donors or other funding agencies.
To initiate research and outreach activities designed to address the major issues confronted by Governments, private sector, NGOs and the donor agencies;
To engage in consultancy assignments that contribute to the development of knowledge and management of gender issues in climate change, DRR and agriculture.
To disseminate research findings through conferences, field days publications, workshops, short courses and other relevant media;
To develop close relationships with relevant local, regional and international climate and agricultural research centers and universities to foster greater understanding, collaboration and communication;
To play an advocacy and lobby role for the development of gender in climate change and agricultural training in Africa.
To contribute to policy and other national and international agenda that promote gender in climate change, DRR and agriculture.
To arrange, hold and provide for or join in arranging, holding and providing for lectures, exhibitions, meetings, classes, conferences and other things reasonably necessary for the advancement of the objectives of GECCAA
To do such other things as may be conducive or incidental to the attainment or furtherance of the above objectives
In implementing its programmes and objects, GECCAA shall promote training of African women and engagement of women in its activities.
